چکیده

Objective: To evaluate the short-term effect of glycaemic control and intravitreal ranibizumab treatment on diabetic macular edema (DME) to assess correlation between HbA1c certain serum cytokines.
Design: A prospective study 43 participants with levels exceeding 53 mmol/mol (7%) DME, as detected by spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SDOCT).
Subjects: Participants were grouped according their initial best corrected distance visual acuity (BCVA). Group 1 was treated three monthly doses (0.5 mg) injections, 2 followed without treatment. Methods: Serum cytokine levels, including interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, IL-8, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) analysed at beginning end 3 months, using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA).
Results: significant decrease in thicknesses (except for one quadrant) observed Group. Changes not correlated decrease. VEGF level significantly increased 1, despite treatment.
Conclusion: Short-term alone had limited value DME. The therapeutic DME supports role local milieu pathophysiology.

Aqueous cytokine levels are associated with reduced macular thickness after intravitreal ranibizumab for diabetic macular edema

PURPOSE It is controversial whether the administration of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drugs for diabetic macular edema (DME) affects intraocular inflammatory cytokines. In this study, we measured cytokine concentration in aqueous humor before and after intravitreal injection of ranibizumab (IVR). The aim was to determine changes in cytokine concentration and their effects on DME red...

Short-term effects of intravitreal ranibizumab therapy on diabetic macular edema

BACKGROUND The short-term effects of intravitreal ranibizumab (IVR) on diabetic macular edema (DME) remains unclear. We assessed the short-term effects of IVR on DME. METHODS Eighteen eyes of 14 patients with DME were enrolled in this prospective interventional case series. After intravitreal ranibizumab was injected into treatment-naïve eyes with DME, we measured the foveal thickness (FT) be...

Diabetic papillopathy with macular edema treated with intravitreal ranibizumab

We report a case of diabetic papillopathy that demonstrated a resolution of optic disk swelling and rapid visual recovery when intravitreal ranibizumab was administered. A 51-year-old male presented with acute painless visual loss in his right eye. His vision was 20/320 in the right eye and 20/50 in the left eye. Fundus examination of the right eye showed nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy w...
